Landscapes - Into The West/Rising Phoenix (Work in Progress)
One and a half years ago I started working on a series of self-portraits to document my more than two year journey overcoming a near fatal bicycle crash in 2017. I sought out the remote landscapes of the American West, the healing power, beauty, and silence of these vast spaces, which often required strenuous hikes to find the necessary solitude for working on my “Rising Phoenix” series (in progress). I attempted to capture the spirit, the emotion, and often the sensuality of a place, inadvertently creating a second series of landscapes “Into The West”.
Breaking Point (Waves) Series
Breaking Point is a contemplation on life, what waves can teach us. For as long as I can remember I’ve had a fascination with the ocean, spent hours watching waves – and always regained a sense of tranquility spending time by the water no matter what. On one of those days when once again I just sat and observed, it struck me how similar the ebb and flow of waves are to our lives.
The reaching, the desire for something, the build up – which inevitable has to come to a halt – a breaking or tipping point – but rather than diminish in those moments when things fall apart, to actually trust and realize it is by no means an end, but an opportunity to start over, and simply allow the flow to happen, to never give up.
Abstract Architecture Series
The abstract architecture series is about bending preconceptions, stating the obvious in a new, unseen way. Appreciating the interaction between space and light, and how one is essential to the other – looking for these moments is an attempt to depict the movement, the fluidity of something normally perceived as static or rigid, the interdependence of opposites, of contradictions.
